BLOG HABITS

June 29, 2008

Last May, two of my blogs were stripped off with its page ranks. When I first got the news, I was totally frustrated and thought of ending my blogging works. I have to admit that blogging, especially earnining-blogging, is a big help for me. I only earn a few from my regular work as an investigator. That is why when my blogs page ranks were removed,  I felt the world is over for me. My blogging partners encourage me to continue doing our blog works. I did.

In order to let go of the anger in me, I decided to create another blog, not just one but many blogs. These are medicalchronicles, itsallaboutbrian, viewmeonline, and firelynx. Three of these four blogs have already page ranks respectively and I am still waiting for the other to have a page rank. Based on my observation, page rank is very important when you are doing paid blogging. It is because the higher the page rank, the more task available for grab. Usually I earn about 10 dollars in every blog post. In a day I would write about 3 task. At the end of the month that would be accomulated to a good sum of money.  Weblinkx and Lynxfast are two of my blogs that were stripped off ifs page ranks.

 I am still optimistic about the reinstatement of these page ranks for my two blogs. Some of my online friend experienced the removal of their page ranks and after a month or two it was returned again.

INCREASING PAGE RANK FOR BLOGS

May 7, 2008

1. Join forums, forums are a great way to achieve links to your website. In most forums you are allowed to have a signature and in your signature you can put a link to your website. But another important note to look on is making sure the forum is somewhat related to your website. You will still get credit if it’s not, but if it’s related to your website than you will be accomplishing two tasks at once.

You will be advertising for your website (bringing in targeted traffic) You will also be building your websites presence.

Your websites presence is very important to your survival. The more people see, or hear about your website the more credibility you will have and this increases your chances of having these visitors come back and possibly become leads.

2. Submit to search engine directories. Search engine directories are a good way to get a free link to your website. They also increase your chances at being listed higher on popular search engines like Google, and overture.

Most search engine directories allow you to submit to their website for free. This will allow you to increase your web presence by being listed on another search engine, and it will also be a free link.

Remember the more links you have the higher your PR will be

3. Using ezine ads (or newsletters). Creating an ezine will probably be the most beneficial step you can take to increasing your web presence. When you create an ezine you will be able to keep visitors coming back to your website for more by using signatures and giving special deals.

Ezine’s will also allow you to increase your back links. By creating an ezine you can submit your information about your ezine to an ezine directory. This directory will than link to your website(thus giving you a free link).

4. Creating and publishing articles. Articles are an easy source of generating new traffic. You can include your signature in your article. This will bring in more traffic from article submission directories.

Your signature usually consists of 4 to 8 lines. Usually the first line would be the title of the website that you are trying to advertise. The last line would be the link to the website and the lines in between these would be a sales pitch to draw your viewers into your website.

5. Links from related websites. Gaining links from related websites can be one of the most frustrating tasks you can attempt.

They are very easy to find, but can be somewhat difficult to obtain links from.

To find related websites, all you have to do is go to a search engine… say Google… and type in your subject. Maybe your website is based on ford mustangs.

You go to Google and type in ford mustangs, than you look around for pages that are somewhat related to your website. After you have done this (which should be very easy) you have to contact them in some way to get your link posted on their website. This can be the most difficult task because a lot of webmasters ignore e-mail’s from people requesting links because they don’t see the importance of it at the time. Some other reasons could be that they are rarely online, or they delete spam mail and sometimes delete their important emails in the process.

Important note: When looking for link partners don’t just link with websites that have a page rank of 4 or higher. Link with anyone and everyone you get a chance to. If you link to someone that has a page rank of zero, this will not hurt your page rank. It will only increase it because you are getting a link back to your website. Google doesn’t look at your back links page ranks to determine what yours is going to be. It simply looks at how many back links you have.

So if Google one day decided to link to a website that was just created and this website has a page rank of 0 and has a domain that goes something like this: mywebsite.geocities.com it’s page rank wouldn’t increase even though Google’s page rank is 10, it’s rank would still be zero because it would only have that one back link.

FORGIVENESS

May 5, 2008

This is another story I got from the book Ripples of joy. The act of forgiving others is the best virtue in the world.

A man’s child was killed by a neighbor’s dog. Revenge would not long satisfy this man, so he found a better way to relieve the agony of his heart. That year a famine had plagued the people, and the neighbor’s fields lay bare-he had no corn to plant for the next year’s harvest. So the grieving father one night sowed the neighbor’s field. His reason? “I sowed seed in my enemy’s field that God might exist.”

FIRST DRIVING LESSON

May 2, 2008

At last I was able to practice my driving skills. I was supposed to enroll myself in a driving school for a confidence-driving course. The course would take around 5 hours of pure driving but I was not able to enroll myself because of the tight schedule that I have. Instead of enrolling myself, my brother decided to teach me how to drive. Ironically, I was able to acquire my drivers’ license before enrolling in a driving school. Starting 10 in the morning all my hands are tied to the steering wheel of the car. I drove a 2003 Honda City. It used to be my brother’s car but he decided to give it to my mother, what a cool brother I have!

My first destination was a car shop near Shoe Mart. I bought 4 pieces bolts for the plate of the car. After installing it to the car, I decided to take along drive going Tagum City. Approximately around 56 kilometers form Davao City and back. I was driving slowly because I was afraid that I might bump on other vehicles that are in motion just like mine. From Tagum City and back it took me around four hours before I was able to complete that leg. Driving is fun but it can cause body aches especially on my right leg.

I am just happy because nothing bad happened to me and to my passengers. Next Sunday I will be driving again for more practice and confidence driving. But at this moment a body massage will be a good idea.

WEBHOSTING

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own websites accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation.

The scopes of hosting services vary widely. The most basic is webpage and small-scale file hosting, where files can be uploaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or a Web interface. The files are usually delivered to the Web "as is" or with little processing. Many Internet service providers (ISPs) offer this service free to their subscribers. People can also obtain Web page hosting from other, alternative service providers. Personal web site hosting is typically free, advertisement-sponsored, or cheap. Business web site hosting often has a higher expense.

Single page hosting is generally sufficient only for personal web pages. A complex site calls for a more comprehensive package that provides database support and application development platforms (e.g. PHP, Java, Ruby on Rails, and ASP.NET). These facilities allow the customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and content management. For e-commerce, SSL is also required.

The host may also provide an interface or control panel for managing the Web server and installing scripts as well as other services like e-mail. Some hosts specialize in certain software or services (e.g. e-commerce). They are commonly used by larger companies to outsource network infrastructure to a hosting company. To find a web hosting company, there are searchable directories that can be used. One must be extremely careful when searching for a new company because many of the people promoting service providers are actually affiliates and the reviews are biased.

Hosting uptime refers to the percentage of time the host is accessible via the internet. Many providers state that they aim for a 99.9% uptime, but there may be server restarts and planned (or unplanned) maintenance in any hosting environment.

A common claim from the popular hosting providers is ‘99% or 99.9% server uptime’ but this often refers only to a server being powered on and doesn’t account for network downtime. Real downtime can potentially be larger than the percentage guaranteed by the provider. Many providers tie uptime, and accessibility, into their own Service Level Agreement, or SLA. SLAs may or may not include refunds, or reduced costs if performance goals are not met.

Internet hosting services can run Web servers; see Internet hosting services.

Hosting services limited to the Web:

    * Free web hosting service: is free, (sometimes) advertisement-supported web hosting, and is often limited when compared to paid hosting.
    * Shared web hosting service: one’s Web site is placed on the same server as many other sites, ranging from a few to hundreds or thousands. Typically, all domains may share a common pool of server resources, such as RAM and the CPU. A shared website may be hosted with a reseller.
    * Reseller web hosting: allows clients to become web hosts themselves. Resellers could function, for individual domains, under any combination of these listed types of hosting, depending on who they are affiliated with as a provider. Resellers’ accounts may vary tremendously in size: they may have their own virtual dedicated server to a colocated server.
    * Virtual Dedicated Server: dividing a server into virtual servers, where each user feels like they’re on their own dedicated server, but they’re actually sharing a server with many other users. The users may have root access to their own virtual space. This is also known as a virtual private server or VPS.
    * Dedicated hosting service: the user gets his or her own Web server and gains full control over it (root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows); however, the user typically does not own the server. Another type of Dedicated hosting is Self-Managed or Unmanaged. This is usually the least expensive for Dedicated plans. The user has full administrative access to the box, which means the client is responsible for the security and maintenance of his own dedicated box.
    * Managed hosting service: the user gets his or her own Web server but is not allowed full control over it (root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows); however, they are allowed to manage their data via FTP or other remote management tools. The user is disallowed full control so that the provider can guarantee quality of service by not allowing the user to modify the server or potentially create configuration problems. The user typically does not own the server. The server is leased to the client.
    * Colocation web hosting service: similar to the dedicated web hosting service, but the user owns the colo server; the hosting company provides physical space that the server takes up and takes care of the server. This is the most powerful and expensive type of the web hosting service. In most cases, the colocation provider may provide little to no support directly for their client’s machine, providing only the electrical, Internet access, and storage facilities for the server. In most cases for colo, the client would have his own administrator visit the data center on site to do any hardware upgrades or changes.
    * Clustered hosting: having multiple servers hosting the same content for better resource utilization.
    * Grid hosting : this form of distributed hosting is when a server cluster acts like a grid and is composed of multiple nodes.
    * Home server: usually a single machine placed in a private residence can be used to host one or more websites from a usually consumer-grade broadband connection. These can be purpose-built machines or more commonly old PC’s.

Some ISP’s actively attempt to block these servers by disallowing incoming requests to TCP port 80 of the user’s connection and by refusing to provide static IP addresses.

  Some specific types of hosting provided by web host service providers:

    * File hosting service: hosts not web pages but files
    * Image hosting service
    * Video hosting service
    * Blog hosting service
    * One-click hosting
    * Shopping cart software

Web hosting is often provided as part of a general Internet access plan; there are many free and paid providers offering these services.

A customer needs to evaluate the requirements of the application to choose what kind of hosting to use. Such considerations include database server software, scripting software, and operating system. Most hosting providers provide Linux-based web hosting which offers a wide range of different software. A typical configuration for a Linux server is the LAMP platform: Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Perl/Python. The webhosting client may want to have other services, such as email for their business domain, databases or multi-media services for streaming media. A customer may also choose Windows for its hosting platform. The customer still can choose from PHP, Perl, and Python but may also use ASP .Net or Classic ASP.

Web hosting packages often include a Web Content Management System, so the end-user doesn’t have to worry about the more technical aspects.

One may also search the Internet to find active webhosting message boards that may provide feedback on what type of webhosting company may suit his/her needs.

PAGE RANK EXPLAINED

Google PageRank Explained
    How many links do you need to get a certain pagerank?
    PageRank as explained by Google
    PageRank Technology

Factors that can increase your Google PageRank

Now the Google PageRank algorithm can be very complexed, but yet friendly invention. Here is a list of things that could help boost you Google PageRank, with a rating scale beside it of how important we think it is.

    * Update Pages Frequently 2/10
    * Add Pages Frequently 4/10
    * Good Neighborhood Directories with high PageRank Levels 7/10
    * Monster Websites 7/10
    * Quality Inbound links 8/10
    * Quality Relevant Links 9/10
    * No Broken Links 5/10
    * Article Submissions (this can increase your PageRank by getting more inbound links)
    * All these put together 10/10

Factors that can decrease your Google PageRank

    * Bad inbound links such as Poker, Porn, Sex, Drugs, or anything to that nature
    * Link spamming
    * Bad Content
    * Lots of broken links
    * SEO Black Hat Techniques

How Google PageRank is Calculated

Okay now we are to the Google PageRank Calculations, this is very simple so pay attention, I learned it over night, not really. The factors about Google PageRank Calculation is that no one knows exactly how it works, but people have discovered over time somewhat how it works, but lets get into an example.

      PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + … + PR(tn)/C(tn))

Above is a Google PageRank algo. that was released in the development of Google algo. Thats right the actualy algo equitation . Which google is not telling us what it does, but that does not matter because the equatation is good enough.

In the equation ‘t1 - tn’ are pages linking to page A, ‘C’ is the number of outbound links that a page has and ‘d’ is a damping factor, usually set to 0.85.

A more simpler way to think of it is:

      a page’s PageRank = 0.15 + 0.85 * (a "share" of the PageRank of every page that links to it)

Share = The linking page’s PageRank is divided by the number of outbound links

A page "votes" an amount of PageRank onto each page that it links to. The amount of PageRank that it has to vote with is a little less than its own PageRank value (its own value * 0.85). This value will be shared equally between all pages

Therefore; it would be better to get a page linked to you that has a PageRank of 5 with 2 outbound links then it would be to have a page linked to you with a PageRank of 8 with 500 outbound links, but don’t get me wrong. It would be better to have both pages linked to you, but if you was to take your choice, think about it.

Now the Google PageRank algorithm is based between a pr of 1 to 10, but many people believe that numbers are set to a algo logarithmic scale. Which there is a very good reason to believe this, but no one knows for sure outside of google, now there has probably been people that have figured it out somewhat, but to be sure, you would of had to write the Google PageRank algorithm your self.
Who invented the Google PageRank Algorithm

Google PageRank was developed at Standford University by Larry Page, and Sergery Brin. This was part of a research project for these two individuals. The project was started in 1995 and then was led to a functional prototype. In 1998, Google was founded.
